Athena Hewett, Holistic Esthetician, Entrepreneur, Skincare Afficianado

Athena is just as magical as her name suggests.

I baby-stalked her Instagram and then reached out to carry her incredible line Monastery Made, and I can’t express enough how thoughtful, as well as effective, these gorgeous and clean products are. I live for that connection when two brands and their creators share the same values and blend effortlessly together. I’m excited for the new product launch, our trip to Austin, and to hopefully one day get a facial by this queen. Enjoy! You can find Athena at @monasterade on IG + monasterymade.com.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do, and something you secretly enjoy?

People (maybe especially clients of mine) might be surprised to hear that I am a high energy person. In the treatment room I sort of switch into this meditative zen Athena (that doesn't exist outside of the treatment room). It's almost like I'm acting in a role. The high energy spirit of mine isn't great in a treatment room so I've learned to leave it at the door. But the high energy spirit is helpful for me in my business life. I am constantly thinking of business at like a million miles a minute so having my zen space for my clients is exactly what I need.

What is your sun, moon, and rising sign? In what ways do you identify with each?

I love that you asked me this question! Sadly, I don't know. I know I am a Leo, that's about it.

Describe yourself in five words.

Intense, fun, funny, generous, particular.

The creative process is very purposeful with Ritual. With so much derivativeness, how do you find inspiration while honoring your authenticity?

Hmm.... I have actually never thought of this. I guess I am constantly feeling inspired by all things in life around me, I just don't have enough hours in the day sadly. I feel like I have the longest list of products I want to make and crafts I want to do...

What is your favorite part of being an Esthetician? How long have you been in the industry?

21 years. I love meeting awesome new people and being inspired by THEM! I love extractions, not gonna lie.

What does Health + Wellness mean to you? How can we make wellness a more inclusive space for all?

How can we make wellness more inclusive? Wellness is having the access and freedom to choose what well-being means to you and the ability to practice accessible self care rituals for both physical and mental health. Wellness can become more inclusive when we choose to take small but consistent steps to make our own unique gifts more accessible. The desire to make huge changes can feel intimidating and sometimes hinder us from doing anything at all. It’s the small incremental habits that can make a huge impact over time.

What are your coveted skin essentials?

Rose cleansing oil, Gold, Attar. Can't live without them!

And finally, what does Feminism + Sisterhood mean to you + why is it important?

I have a husband that not only believes that woman are equal to men but thinks they are superior. I think feminism starts with men, more men like my husband need to exist. I have two boys, and we will raise them right, you can be sure of that.
