Kelsey Greenfield Of BodyShoppe

I met Kelsey Greenfield almost two years ago where we quickly realized we were going to be friends.

Not only is she one of my closest babes, but she’s also one of the most inspiring and motivating women I’ve ever met. Completely relatable, wise, and deftly embodies female power! I hope you’re just as inspired as I always am.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do, and something you secretly enjoy?

I am NYC born and New Jersey-bred gal that came down to New Orleans to attend Tulane and have been here ever since, 10 years now! I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years and was so lucky to find a passion so early on in like (age 6!) Gymnastics taught me so much about my body, commitment, and goals. It also helped to temper my lifelong struggle with anxiety. When I went to college I lost gymnastics as a physical outlet and my mental health struggled. My anxiety was at an all-time high and I struggled with depression. I knew that movement was my medicine but struggled to find joy in movement like I had with gymnastics. Fast forward 6 years... I just opened Body Shoppe -- a group fitness studio and community hub on Freret St. Being an entrepreneur in the fitness space is my dream. I get to move, sweat, dance, and challenge my body daily while creating space for others to connect with their bodies and each other. My goal with Body Shoppe is to spread joy through movement. To show the community that fitness can, and should, be fun and accessible. I secretly enjoy spending time alone. I'm a classic "extroverted introvert."

What is your sun, moon, and rising sign? In what ways do you identify with each?

Sun Sign: Virgo

I am meticulous and have a critical eye for detail. I am also super critical of myself. I brush off compliments and often critically. (working on this!!) I don't do well with downtime and feel restless if I'm not doing something productive. I love to feel useful! I'm super resourceful and solution-oriented.

Moon Sign: Aries

I am an independent AF and a woman of action. I am also uncomfortable with sentimental displays. It is super important for me to have a physical and creative outlet.

Rising Sign: Virgo

I am good at solving problems and am solution oriented. I love to help others and am super body aware -- which makes me a great fitness trainer!

Describe yourself in five words!

Resourceful, resilient, persistent, funny, supportive

Top three favorite movies?

Moulin Rouge, Clueless, Forest Gump

What does Health + Wellness mean to you?

I think it's human nature to compare ourselves to others, but comparison will steal your joy. True health is happiness, and that means feeling good in your body where you are, even if it’s not where you want to be. Feeling capable and strong. I also think health + wellness is being kind to yourself. Speaking to yourself the way you would speak to your best friend. You are your longest and most important relationship take inventory of how you treat yourself.

And finally, what does sisterhood/feminism mean to you + why is it important?

I feel like sisterhood and feminism are words that get thrown around frivolously. Too often I see women shouting "women supporting women" from the rooftops but don't actually practice it. Don't tell me your a feminist and support your sisters, show me. Sisterhood is support. Women you can trust to pick you up when you're down, recenter you when self-doubt creeps in, and genuinely celebrate triumphs with. It's knowing that there is enough space at the top for everyone and practicing that by mentoring, boosting up, and including others.
